A different sort of waiting

Posted by quirksalight on February 12, 2010

I’m now counting down the days until the start of A-100 and there’s plenty of paperwork to keep me busy. The updated CV has been sent and the formal offer received. The question with that is whether or not I’ll appeal the salary calculation. It’s a step or two lower than I think I’d like, but I need to do the math to decide if it’s work pressing.

In parallel to this, I’m organizing my packing; sorting between HHE and UAB, the former which is going into storage and the latter being sent to training. The thing is, I really don’t have all that much stuff, so it makes the organizing easier.

Also in parallel, are the additional paperwork involving health insurance, banks, etc, etc… Kinda telling that a fat, 2 inch thick, packet arrived in the mail with everything.
Even though the first thought when I saw the packet was, “Whoa!”, I still have the giggles over the fact that it’s really happening.

FS update: Light at the end of the tunnel

Posted by quirksalight on January 20, 2010

A double header day!
I received the e-mail from State HR stating that I was out of Suitability (It did take only a week!) and placed on the CON Register at 10/68. Just in time, as the March 29 invitations for CON went out today! So in the same letter was a invitation to join said class! Awesome!

Of course, the paperwork never ends; I’ve got to finish getting together my resume and other info for the salary, and also send in the formal acceptance, but it’s set. I’m going to be in the 152th Junior Officer class.

FS: And the reality of bureaucracy comes crashing in…

… as I wait for paperwork to be sent from one group to another.

As my friends tell me, “Welcome to the government. Take a number.”

3 Months and counting…

Posted by quirksalight on December 11, 2009

…in adjudication. Today (Dec 11th) is the three month mark in adjudication purgatory (as the listserv likes to call it). So I called DipSec today, and they sent an e-mail to the case adjudicator asking for an update. I’m supposed to call back next week to see if there’s any new information. [sigh]

The two week update: This time, the phone call

Posted by quirksalight on November 13, 2009

It’s time for the two week update on my adjudication status. I decided to liven things up by *gasp* a phone call instead of e-mail. (seriously, it was a bit of a letdown).

Yep. No difference. Still in adjudication. This time, they told me that my file was going to be at least 30 days in adjudication. Which, doesn’t really help me, as we’re past the 2 month mark now. However, when I told them that I was told in October that the adjudication would be completed by early November, they were very confused why I was told that.

Ah well. Next update, right before Thanksgiving.

Glimmer, my ass. It’s the long haul.

Posted by quirksalight on October 14, 2009

So, back about a month ago, I had a lovely of hope that I was seeing the light at the end of the tunnel for my clearances, and yeah… that’s been squashed like a bug. It’s one month later and I’m still in adjudication. Classes are set for the year, and the next training class is the first week of January. Those invites go out early-mid November. Time’s ticking…

But, I’m keeping busy. The editing, of course, and the random assortment of hobbies. Trying to kayaking a couple more times before the boathouses close at the end of the month, and there’s always the RenFaire, which also ends this month. And I’ve started Russian classes yesterday (Oct 13) at the Russian Cultural Center in DC. Twice a week, two hours each session, for six weeks. Nominal cost, $80 for registration and book fees. Not bad.

More waiting…

Posted by quirksalight on September 16, 2009

Talking to the FS registrar’s office today, I found out that a) my clearances are still incomplete, and b) all the October invites have been sent. On the upside, my score is apparently good enough to get into the Jan or Feb classes, assuming my clearances are in.
