“the pleasure of the president”

Posted by quirksalight on March 14, 2007

Holy Moly! Everyone is in government by the “pleasure of the president”!!
Satirized on the Daily Show (March 14th episode), this was in reference to the possibility that Attorney General Alberto Gonzales would retire or be dismissed over the bruhaha over the firing of US attorneys. Quoted several times, Gonzales stated that he served in his position “at the pleasure of the president”. What kind of answer is that?
What a copout – there’s more and more evidence of the current administration’s meddling in the federal judicial system by pressuring and removing prosecutors who were not willing to fall in line. Here’s a link to a graphic describing the situation.
Gonzales is covering for an administration that’s going to turn him into a scapegoat when the crapola really hits the fan; the Bush has already stated in the news of “mistakes” in handling the firing of these US Attorneys. Not too far of a leap to dump it all on the Attorney General’s office.
Pass the Buck? Heh. More like “Pass the Crap”.
